In the pursuit for love and happiness, ETHAN, a man with great ambitions and a big heart, must face many obstacles, some that threaten to halt his quest. Set on filling an emptiness left by the death of his parents years ago, Ethan can’t seem to find that one connection we all desire. Yet he continues moving forward despite the many drawbacks he faces. But love is not Ethan’s only goal. Having grown up in Toronto and witnessing the melting pot of cultures remain somewhat divided, Ethan wants to unify his city. He just doesn’t know how. Seeking to understand those around him and build bonds with them is a task more daunting than it seems. Ethan’s kind soul draws people to him but something prevents that connection from lasting a lifetime.
His heart has been broken before, his self-esteem shot completely. But Ethan hasn’t learned his lesson. Instead, he continues to force himself into relationships that aren’t any good for him. Every girl he falls for is from a different culture, each one offering him a taste of another life. First Nations, Black, Jewish, Korean, Iranian, South American…the list goes on. Things start off well with each of these women, but soon enough, they break his heart…or he breaks theirs. And every time that happens, depression returns like a dark cloud over his existence. All the while, Ethan must find and maintain a steady job to avoid falling back into poverty, find his way in life, and preserve his sanity in the process.
In an interweaving of snippets taken from Ethan’s noble voyage, there are stories of accomplishment, defeat, discrimination, sorrow, hopefulness, and glee. As Ethan makes his way through a kaleidoscope world searching for the better side of humanity and love at the same time, he’ll meet an eclectic mix of people who help him comprehend life and its complexity. Each person that enters his life will illustrate different aspects of an ever-changing world and an ever-growing Toronto.
Plot Summary
Afghanistan has experienced one of the world’s largest refugee crises for more than two decades. Between the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979 and the present day, one in four Afghans has been a refugee. At the peak of the crisis in the late 1980s, there were more than six million Afghan refugees. Ethan and his family were fortunate to be among the refugees who had the opportunity to escape to Canada.
This is the story of Ethan who was one of these refugees who had the opportunity to come to Canada.
Samantha – Jewish
Before 1949, seeking asylum for Jews escaping aggression and volatility was nearly impossible. After the war, Canada loosened its immigration policy, accepting over 40,000 Holocaust survivors, including Samantha’s family.
Catori – Native
The removal of indigenous people by the government included assimilation, compulsory schooling, forced relocation, and destruction of equipment, because of this, Catori’s family was forced to leave their native land and move to Toronto.

Sister Marie Baptiste had a supply of sticks as long and thick as pool cues. When she heard me speak my language, she’d lift up her hands and bring the stick down on me. I’ve still got bumps and scars on my hands. I have to wear special gloves because the cold weather really hurts my hands. I tried very hard not to cry when I was being beaten and I can still just turn off my feelings…. And I’m lucky. Many of the men my age, they either didn’t make it, committed suicide or died violent deaths, or alcohol got them. And it wasn’t just my generation. My grandmother, who’s in her late nineties, to this day it’s too painful for her to talk about what happened to her at the school.”
The historic, intergenerational, and collective oppression of Indigenous Peoples continues to this day in the form of land disputes, over-incarceration, lack of housing, child apprehension, systemic poverty, marginalization.
Gabriela – Venezuela
Escaping food shortages, hyperinflation, a collapsing economy, disease, and violence in Venezuela, Gabriela’s family moved to Canada to forge a better life.
Sahar – Iranian
After 2,500 years of continuous Persian monarchy rule, the successful 1979 Iranian Revolution helped provide freedom for some Iranians, but further fear and persecution for others. In the wake of that revolution, Sahar’s family escaped to Canada.
Kay – Chinese/German
In search of a more natural and social environment that bolsters independence over conformity, Kay and her family left China for Canada.

Mani Nasry is an exceptionally talented actor and filmmaker and artist with a sophisticated breadth of education, skills, experience, and professional accomplishments. He trained as an actor, producer, and director in New York, Los Angeles, and Toronto, with great hopes to see his career blossom to the highest level. Mani has enjoyed great success in Feature & Short Films as he has appeared in dozens of acclaimed projects, ranging from mainstream Hollywood fares such as The Glow, Covert Affairs, The L.A. Complex, and Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium to acclaimed independent projects such as Galaxy Donuts, The Babysitter, In The Pin We Trust and 482-LOVE. Throughout his career, Mani has won and been nominated for numerous awards based on feature films which helped him pave his way into the industry. Awards ranging from, Best Performance By An Actor In a Leading Role, to a nomination for Best International Actor with his newest feature film We.
“My aim in life is like everyone else and that’s to find love and happiness,” said Mani Nasry, Actor, producer, and director. “For me finding love and happiness in what you do is the main focus, I find love and am happy within the film industry and that’s why I strive to accomplish more.”
As an actor he trained in New York at H.B Studio, Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and at the Actors Studio in New York founded by Elia Kazan, now operated by Al Pacino & Ellen Burstyn. He spent 2 years working with various acting teacher in L.A such as Sharon Chatten, Eric Morris, and Allan Miller.
For Mani, the decision to work in the film industry guided his academic decisions from an early age. He attended a Toronto high school renowned for excellence in the arts and was accepted into one of the highly competitive film program at Ryerson University. Notably, he went to Ryerson with an already well-established career in theatre, film, television and commercial work, and a range of multi-faceted achievements including producing, cinematography, casting, writing, directing, acting, and editing. On his own, he added stints in New York and Los Angeles with leading acting teachers, as well as learning the grace and style of many forms of dance and athletics. With courses perceptively, he has also recognized the importance of acquiring an understanding of the business side of the industry, and the varied aspects of technology and production.
Mani was raised and groomed in Canada, his mindset and lifestyle have always been different, which gave him a strive to do better and work harder. He worked with many acting and film teachers to polish his film skills, it was in high school where he found a deeper interest in film that led him to New York and Los Angeles. The journey to where Mani Nasry is today was not easy, with that, he has channeled it in everything he does to this day. Besides his current acting, producing and directing career, Mani Nasry played various challenging roles in various short films at colleges and universities such as Sheridan, Humber, York University and earned a bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts at Ryerson University. Nasry made a life-changing decision to travel to New York on his own at 19 years old to follow his dreams, in 2002 he gained his ACTRA. Upon polishing his skills, Nasry landed his first major role, a $5 million film called The Glow with well-known actors Dean Cain and Portia De Ross.
He currently completed his first feature film called We, which took over 5 years to make. The film follows Ethan, a man with big ambitions and an even bigger heart as he searches for love in the years following the death of his parents. Mani brought authenticity and life to the leading character of Ethan. He not only acted in it but also directed and produced the film. He imbued a character with layers and complexities that allowed for the audience to empathize with him and root for him. The film was fully improvised on a 200-page script. Mani is a master improviser, working with uncertainties and inherent risk to create a fresh and invigorating performance not only from himself but helping all actors accomplish the same results, the work electrified the entire production.
His first feature film we has joined the international film festival circuit and has provided to be a bona fide success. The film has been selected to screen as an official selection at several highly distinguished festivals including the Indian Cine Film Festival, where it won Best Feature Film, and The Desert Edge Global Film Festival recently granted Nasry the Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role Award for We.

Cory Lee is a Canadian singer-songwriter and actress. She is most noted for playing the role of Karma in the television series Instant Star, and Miss Oh on Degrassi.
Cory Lee is a dangerous multi-threat singer, actress, songwriter, dancer and model. Initially her music caught fire in the clubs across Canada; radio soon followed with her first single “The Naughty Song” which was nominated for a Juno Award and scored nominations for a 2006 Indie Music Award for Pop Artist of The Year and 2 Canadian Radio Music Awards.

Biography
Shiva Negar comes from a very diverse background, born in Iran and raised in Turkey and Canada. She began her career as a child performer by performing on piano and guitar at recitals and in singing competitions. In high school, Shiva was involved in several school plays and theatre, which quickly became her art of choice and decided to take her passion for acting to the next level. Shiva then went to film school in Los Angeles and in between following her passion and her auditions, Shiva also managed to graduate from York University with a degree in Psychology and finished her Post-graduate program in Events management & Public Relations.
Shiva plays the lead role in Lionsgate and CBS Films’ Action Thriller AMERICAN ASSASSIN released Sep 15th worldwide. Humberly Gonzalez is a Venezuelan born, Toronto-based actor. After graduating The National Theatre School of Canada, she debuted her on-camera skills in director Don McKellar’s short It’s Not You, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Her TV credits include Orphan Black, Shadowhunters,Saving Hope, Guilt Free Zone and the upcoming CTV one-hour drama The Detail. Gonzale’s additional credits include the feature Kodachrome as well as a collaboration with Ubisoft as a motion capture performer in the upcoming video game Starlink, directed by Zeke Norton.

Since graduating from the theater program at Collège Lionel-Groulx in 2011, Shauna Bonaduce has kept busy. Some of her stage credits include The Dybbuk at the Segal Theatre and Kulturfest in New York in 2015, directed by B. Wasserman and Rachelle Glait, a show done entirely in Yiddish. Anne la maison aux pignons verts at Théâtre Denise-Pelletier in 2016, directed by Frédéric Bélanger, L’incendie de la Triangle Factory in 2013, directed by Valérie Le Maire. On TV, we saw her in Lance et Compte, 30 Vies and Comment devenir une légende for two seasons on VRAK TV. On the big screen, she was part of the cast of Innocent, directed by Marc-André Lavoie, Embrasse-moi comme tu m’aimes, directed by André Forcier, Les Tuches 2 directed by Olivier Baroux, Pieds nus dans l’aube, directed by Francis Leclerc and La passion d’Augustine, directed by Léa Pool.
SERA-LYS McARTHUR
Biography
Sera-Lys McArthur is a mixed-race actress from Saskatchewan, Canada. She began acting at the age of 12 when she was cast in the CBC miniseries Revenge of the Land, directed by John N. Smith (Dangerous Minds, The Boys of St.Vincent). She has since lived, trained and worked in such locations as Vancouver, Toronto, New York, LA, and the U.K. She studied Musical Theatre at the AMDA in New York, and then stayed in the Big Apple to gain experience as a fashion model. She was awarded the Premier’s One World Scholarship via Capilano University in BC and moved to London to attend the MA in Acting programme at East 15 Acting School at the University of Essex, where she graduated at the top of her class. She has also studied under veteran actress Barbara Bain in Los Angeles.
Perhaps her most recognizable work to date is on CBC’s Arctic Air, which is now in it’s third season. Her recurring guest-star role ‘Hailey’ is the onscreen niece of the famous Native actor, Adam Beach (Flags of Our Fathers, Law and Order: SVU) and onscreen daughter of the Gemini- and Leo-award-winning actress, Michelle Thrush (Blackstone, Dead Man).

Gabe Grey is a Toronto-based actor best known for his roles as Dr. Ned Patel on Bomb Girls and as Dr. Naveed Mirali on Lucky 7. Gabe stars in Deepa Mehta’s film, Beeba Boys, and can be seen on Lost Girl and heard on the videogame Far Cry 4. His additional film and television credits include Bloodletting and Miraculous Cures, The Border, Nikita, Covert Affairs and the feature film Toilet.

Juan Carlos holds an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Acting from The University of Windsor. He has worked in theatres across Canada and the United States including The Grand theatre in London, Tarragon Theatre, Festival of Classics, The Saidye Bronfman Centre, Cahoot’s Theatre Projects, The du Maurier World Stage, The Factory Theatre, The Red Barn Theatre, Tempest Theatre, Roseneath Theatre, Coral Springs Theater Center, The Kravis Center, Theatre Passe Muraille, The St. Lawrence Centre, Playwright’s Theatre Centre in Vancouver, Green Thumb theatre, Alameda Theatre Company and Toronto’s classical Soulpepper Theatre Company. His first play “Further Beyond” was accepted into the 2000 SummerWorks Theatre Festival and played at the Factory Theatre Main Stage. The production later toured to the Grand Theatre in London, where it played to sold-out houses, receiving critical acclaim. He was a key member of the 2001 Playwright’s Unit at Cahoot’s Theatre Projects, where he completed writing his play “The 8 o’clock Train” under the direction of Guillermo Verdecchia. He also co-wrote the one man show “Borderlines” with his father Alfonso Velis Tobar, which had a successful run in Vancouver, British Columbia. He regularly works in commercials, print and voice. Juan Carlos is a founding member and serves as Artistic Director & Executive Producer of “Acropolis Theatre Company”, which produced the annual: “Shakespeare on the Thames Theatre Festival” in London. He recently directed his first short “Hereafter”.

Mani Nasry played the role of George in a movie of the week with Portia de Rossi, Dean Cain, Hal Linden and Dine Merill. This role got him into the union over 16 years ago. He then went on over 500 ACTRA/SAG film sets in order to learn different acting and film techniques. He lived in Hollywood and New York for a couple of years and trained with leading acting schools. The same schools that taught Al Pacino, Robert De Niro and Dustin Hoffman. Mani Nasry followed the foot steps of James Dean.

Throughout his career a DOP, Lawrence has helped establish more than 100 Commercials in both 35mm and HD Format, 6 feature films and 6 short films in 35mm and 16mm, 4 feature documentaries for both national and international television networks, including BBC-Dhaka and BBC World Trust. Lawrence specializes in all areas of cinematography, including aerial photography, and for his excellene in the field of cinematography, Lawrence has been awarded with the national film award, as the best cinematographer in Bangladesh in 2013.

Bai Zhou
Biography
Bai Zhou is a Toronto-based director, producer, and cinematographer originally from Beijing with diverse experiences and cross-cultural percipience, both artistically and commercially, as embodied by his film works. He is bilingual and works extensively overseas, winning acclaims in many international film festivals.
In 2014, he directed and produced short film True Voodoo that was selected and premiered at Festival de Cannes. In 2015, Bai participated in the feature film Warrior’s Gate, a China-France co-production project produced by director Luc Besson; In 2016, he worked on Walt Disney’s first in China production, The Dreaming Man, as assistant director. He had also worked on productions starring well-known actors including Donnie Yen, Julian Richings, Sandi Ross, and etc. Alongside these aforementioned collaborations, Bai established his own production company named Phenomenon Pictures in 2012 that sought to broaden his career development in the North American film industry.
As a filmmaker, Bai Zhou is particularly inspired by Ang Lee. He is infatuated by the concoction of Eastern subtleness and Western narrative frameworks in Lee’s films. His own work portrays an indirect emotional delicacy in concrete film language, expanding the possibility of narratives while exploring open relational spaces with limited footage time. In the future, Bai continues to challenge himself with incoming opportunities and express his film vision.
